MIDI Controller: should I connect via USB or MIDI?

I just this minute purchased a M-Audio Keystation 61es MIDI Controller to use with Reason 3.0. I'm running Reason on an antediluvian computer that I use for nothing else. I finally hooked up the controller using the USB cable that come with it and I enjoy nearly a second of delay between pressing a push button and hearing a nouns! My sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster PCI (several years old).

So here's the business deal: I read in another Answers post that using USB as defiant an actual MIDI-in adds hitch. What should I do to eliminate this suspension? Get a new soundcard next to a USB-in or a MIDI-in?
