I added memory on my Compaq notebook. It has 256mb and i added another 512mb. An error go off that says memory exceeds the limit. I know that it have to be a limit beside the motherboard. my question is... is in attendance anyway that i can do to trick it so it will accept the other 256mb?
it's currently working fine next to total of 512mb in it.
any suggestions?
gratitude.
Memory exceeds?
First you want to check the spec sheet on hp.com to see what the limits are. If your computer is more than 5 or 6 years behind the times then it might not be capable of be upgraded past 512mb. If it is expandable to 1gb next you have to use 2 512mb memory cards. Make sure you also own the correct pin count and speed capabilities. Everything you would call for to know should be on hp's site, just type contained by your model number in their go through box. No you can not trick the motherboard into accepting it. Hope that helps you.
Try updating the bios. Without knowing the exact model of Compaq, I can't contribute you a true maximum, but try the HP/Compaq site for tech specs. Go here and enter your model:

Check to see if your motherboard, will support it.
